Film Review
“Battle for Sevastopol”

Watched this movie a few days ago, I was under a great impression and wanted to share my opinion. To give some credit, a joint Russian-Ukrainian production
did a great job. They successfully combined a historical background with a difficult
fate of the characters, showing at the same time a touchable drama and an epic
action.
Since it is a biographical film, the storyline tells us about a brave
and courageous woman Lyudmila Pavlichenko who was one of the greatest snipers
during the World War II.
She
fighted in the Battle of Odessa and, eventually, the defense of Sevastopol.
After 309 confirmed kills, she was sent to the United States to campaign for
American support.
Yulia Peresild did a great job playing the lead role. I am sure, she
completely got into character; therefore, conveyed all the complicated emotions, showing how hard it was to be a woman in the Red Army and fight for the
peace along with men.
The most interesting thing for me was to see battle scenes. Some of them
were extremely sad and even made me shed tears. However, taking into account
the historical period, I am not sure whether the army was so condescending to women
on the battlefield.
I guess, the main lesson I got is to keep going in any situation. A
strong willpower is the key to success.
People older than 16 years old would evaluate this movie. It will make
them reflect on some important topics that were touched upon. I am sure this
movie deserves 5/5.
