“Battle for Sevastopol” Watched this movie a few days ago, I was under a great impression and wanted to share my opinion. To give some credit, a joint Russian-Ukrainian production did a great job. They successfully combined a historical background with a difficult fate of the characters, showing at the same time a touchable drama and an epic action. Since it is a biographical film, the storyline tells us about a brave and courageous woman Lyudmila Pavlichenko who was one of the greatest snipers during the World War II. She fighted in the Battle of Odessa and, eventually, the defense of Sevastopol. After 309 confirmed kills, she was sent to the United States to campaign for American support. Yulia Peresild did a great job playing the lead role. I am sure, she completely got into character; therefore, conveyed all the complicated emotions, showing how hard it was to be a woman in the Red Army and fight for the peace along with men. The most interesting thing for me was ...

Reflection note

As for me, the most useful thing was writing full-fledged essays. Since I fond of writing, it was a true pleasure for me. Composing gives you an opportunity to structure your thoughts, find new vocabulary which is quite worth for memorizing. Moreover, I consider the majority of my groupmates would agree, one of the most curious classes was the one we watched a video from IATEFL Conference. This experience enabled to check and enhance our listening skills.     During the semester we were working in small groups, discussing some of the topics. In my opinion, it took too much time and could last a bit shorter. The next semester I would like to know some new interesting techniques for writing. It should be pretty useful within our course. There are some topics that my peers may find interesting to discuss. At least, I consider them as disputable issues in our modern society. For example, the ecological problem as it is getting worse very fast. Also the question of sa...

Summary

The article “ Nearly all countries agree to stem flow of plastic wasteinto poor nations ” written by Emily Holden is devoted to the discussion of the problem of environment. Our word is full of high-tech and developed technologies, and this fact clearly shows that there are always two sides to the coin. Each person may surely claim that technology is a boon to the humankind. It simplifies our life making some activities rather easier; it provides new opportunities in different fields. Nevertheless, we cannot deny a number of withdraws that affects our society and environment. One of the main problems has become plastic. First, the author draws our attention to the fact that villages in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia had turned into dumpsites due to plastic waste. It affects not only human but also flora and fauna, since plastic debris clutters pristine land and floats in huge masses in oceans. Emily Holden gives an example of Rolph Payet’s speech in the United Nations Env...

“Money matters a lot” – How far is it relevant? Your response on this matter  Nowadays we are living in the world where everything turns around money. Money has been generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debt centuries ago. They were created to get some necessary things for daily life; however, as time passes, money became used to get surpluses. The more money people have the more benefits they can get. Less money means stress in bill payments, gas prices, and food prices. With money, people can fulfill their material need. However, money cannot buy everything such as happiness, friendship and love, health, and appetite.  As a clear example of it we can name a book “The Great Gatsby”, where the main character was blind for the color of money; he thought that the solution to all his problems was money. He wanted to obtain feelings from other people by means money because these people around considered that money could cover up their defects, ...
Reflection note I would say that the most useful thing for me was to remember the structure of the five paragraphs essay. Since I fond of writing I was really glad to know a bit more about this field. In addition, I discovered such an interesting Internet source as Guardian. It turned to be quite noteworthy newspaper, and I found a lot of educational information reading articles of the authors from different countries. It was very entertaining to know an opinion on some significant worldwide problems from the point of view of people with other cultural values. During the semester we were working in our own blogs a little bit, and I guess, it was not that necessary. As someone had technical problems with the website, I would say it would...
Essay After reading the article « ‘This is supposed to be a rich country’: volunteers on the reality of food bank Britain» ( https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/dec/19/this-is-supposed-to-be-a-rich-country-volunteers-on-the-reality-of-food-bank-britain ) which is devoted to such an acute social problem as food poverty, I decided to think it over. Since middle class runs in our society, well-off people mostly do not consider about those who are not able to provide themselves. There are many different reasons why some citizens are on the breadline, and not all of them are depend on the person. That is why some sympathetic to other’s misery people organize food banks. On the one hand, someone may say this idea is not that good, as it seems. As people that come to food bank are just lazy and do not want to change their life. It is enough for them to take free food and waste little amount of money on alcohol or drugs. Someone may say this way of life is completely fault of the...
